Robert Jackson

d. June 1, 2006

LCDR Robert J. Jackson entered into eternal life on June 1, 2006

He was born on July 6, 1934, the son of the late Francis and Anne Dietz Jackson of Katonah, NY.

After attending the New York State Maritime College at Throgs Neck, NY, he received both a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering and a Commission as an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve.

LCDR Jackson continued his Naval Reserve service while employed as a Professional Engineer, first with the New York State Department of Health, and later with the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna and at its West Milton site. He retired from the Naval Reserve as a Lieutenant Commander in 1978, after more than twenty years of dedicated service.

He was proud of his period of service as a volunteer fireman with the Westmere Fire Department for many years, part of Bob's belief in giving back something to his community.
He was, in earlier times, an avid hunter and an accomplished pistol marksman, winning many competitive awards in Combat Shooting events. He was also an Instructor for courses in both Hunter Safety and Pistol Safety; he was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and the Military Officers Association.

In 1995, after many years of shoveling and snow-blowing Albany's often-heavy snowfalls, he retired from Knolls and was delighted to find none of that white fluffy material ever appeared at his winter residence in Venice, Florida, where friends and family were always most welcome.

LCDR Jackson is survived by his wife of fifty years, Patricia A. Jackson, and his sons: Richard T. Jackson (Josie) and John F. Jackson (Kathi). He was predeceased by his first-born son, LTJG James P. Jackson, who is survived by his wife, Abbie Shen Jackson. Very much missing their Grandfather are his grandchildren, the light and joy of his life: Lindy Jackson McLinden of Darwin, NT, Australia; Kimberly & Daniel Jackson of Lebanon, OH; and Karen Jackson of Charlton, NY. He also leaves a brother, William Jackson of Somers, NY, and a sister, Patricia Jackson Constantino of Wurtsboro, NY.

He will be remembered as a man of principle, a knowledgeable instructor, and, most of all, a good friend who was always willing to help.

Friends and family may visit from 4-8pm at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumpter Avenue, Guilderland, NY on Sunday, June 4th. The Parish Family of Christ the King is invited to come together in prayer at 7:30 PM on Sunday at the Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Church at 10 AM on Monday, June 5th, with internment at Memory's Garden Cemetery.
