The Beloved Robert Lee Jones passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years old, in his home, on Monday, June 13th, 2022. He was born in Darlington SC, on November 3rd, 1941, to the late Queen Elizabeth and Levern (Champ) Jones. He was one of 14 children.
In his early years, Robert attended school in South Carolina. He later relocated to NYC, where he became a dedicated coach to a girls softball team. Additionally, he worked as a truck driver for Rubinstein and various other companies. Later on, he worked in a sock factory, making Polo Ralph Lauren socks. His last job, before leaving NYC, was working for Lee Avenue Cleaners, with that infamous hand truck. He later relocated to upstate New York, where many of his loved ones had resided. Robert was known for his love of fishing, being the man on the grill and loved to talk and play with his grand and great-grandchildren. His family, near and far, admired him for being a prideful, strong and witty man. He enjoyed telling a good joke and always had a smart come back.
Robert, also known as Lil Rob, Rob and Huh, was preceded by his Siblings Edna Mae, Cora, Eddie, Elizabeth, Otis, Betty, Sammy, Willie, James, Jerome; His son Eddie Ray and two son-in-laws Khalid (EithK) and Scott. He is survived by his siblings Pearlena, Leo and Pearlymae; his companion Barbara; his children Levern, Jeanette, Robin, Crystal, Schenell (Buffy), Tameka, Sha-mel, Perry (Doushan) and Monique; his son-in-laws Leroy and Muhammad; daughter-in-law Lindsey & a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, niece's, nephews, cousins, and other relatives & friends.
Robert was very thankful for the family of care takers, Barbara Babb, Yaaseen Brown, Jacob Shallow, Da-son Brown, Schenell Babb, Fitz Brown Jr., Zeph Brown, Sha-mel Babb, Crystal Brown, Fatima Green, Naomi Reddick, and Abdullah & Qaasim Babb, for the loving exceptional care they provided, around the clock, in his final days.
The family would like to thank the staff at Community Hospice, The New Comer Funeral Home and Memory Gardens Cemetery for the services they provided to Rob. Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing and funeral service, provided at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, NY 12205, on Monday, June 20th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Immediately following these services, will be a burial and repast, where all are welcome to share in the celebration of Robert's life.
