ALBANY- Robert M. Tierney, 84, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015, at the Teresian House with his family beside him. Robert was born to the late Michael and Adeline Tierney in Troy, NY on August 22, 1930. Bob was a lifelong resident of the Capital Region growing up in Watervliet, NY and residing in Loudonville, NY for over 50 years.
Bob was predeceased by his beautiful wife of nearly 50 years Audrey Marie Bell, brother Jack, sister Joan and his grandson Stephen. Survivors include his sister Elizabeth, several nieces and nephews, children Michael (Marsha), Daniel (Debbie), Timothy (Sharon) and Beth Ann, grandchildren Rachel (Felipe), Rebecca, Ryan, Alyssa, Christian, Zachary and loyal friend and companion Carolyn Lannon. Bob attended LaSalle Institute and graduated from Watervliet High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War obtaining the rank of AG3 before being honorably discharged and returning home. Upon returning home, Bob undertook the difficult task of working full time while attending night school for eight years as he raised four young children with Audrey. After eight years of studying at Siena College, he graduated with a B.S. He worked for New York State for nearly 30 years achieving the title of Chief Investigator for the Attorney General. Upon retirement, Bob became even more involved with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He enjoyed golf, football (especially the NY Giants), socializing with his friends at Frear Park, Saratoga Race Course and going to casinos. Bob spent the last two years of his life as a resident of the Teresian House where he thrived.
His children would like to thank the entire staff at the Teresian House and in particular every member of the B wing of the fifth floor for their skill, dedication, generosity of spirit and the love they provided Bob throughout his residency.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Infant of Prague Chapel at the Teresian House, Albany. Visitation will be prior to the Mass from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
