Malta- Robert "Mike" "Mikey" Martin, 73, passed away in Saratoga Springs, NY on August 19, 2022. He was born on September 24, 1948 in Tupper Lake, NY to the late Stanley "Tino" Martin and Mary L. (Hough) Martin. Mike graduated high school in Old Forge, NY. The Martin family is part of Adirondack history having immigrated from Ontario, Canada to Tupper Lake in 1899.
Mike's family and many friends will miss his witty comments and wisecracks. His dry-wit sense of humor kept everyone on their toes. There were lots of laughs when around Mike. He loved a good card game with a cold beer. He enjoyed playing pool and "never lost a game." He liked watching Gunsmoke and golf. Mikey was a fantastic cook and enjoyed preparing meals for his brother, James "Jimmy."
Mike proudly coached his son, Bobby's, Little League baseball team for years. He was also a salesman and owned and operated a gas station in Albany, NY. He was an experienced roofer and had the broad knowledge and skills to tackle many different types of jobs. He was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. He was a hard worker and shared that work ethic with his children. Mike loved his family with all of his heart.
He is survived by his youngest brother, favorite companion and roommate, Jimmy Martin. Mike is also survived by his children, Michael "Bobby" Martin and his wife, Mary, of Latham, NY; Gina Martin of Albany, NY; Julie Martin of Elizabethtown, NY; Jamie Martin of Albany, NY; and, James W. Martin of San Antonio, TX. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Felicia and Katelyn Martin, Dominic Rapp, and Abigail and Travis Sitterly. Mike also leaves behind a great-grandson, Preston James Sitterly. "Pop Pop" and Preston developed a very special bond during his illness. He also left his dear friend and barber, Johnny "Hollywood" and his longtime friend, "Frenchie," who the family thanks for their loyal friendship and compassion. Mike is also survived by his ex-wife, forever friend and soulmate, Peggy (Bennett) Rising. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, his sister Linda Klein and his brothers William "Billy" and Charles "Chucky" Martin.
Funeral services were entrusted to New Comer Cremations & Funerals in Colonie, NY. Private services will be held by the family. "Tell the people you love that you love them; every day. And, cherish the memories." Martin Strong.
