Mastro, Robert
It is with profound sadness that we had to say goodbye on December 23, 2023 after he fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born April 11, 1950 to Mary and Gene Mastro of Colonie, NY.
He worked over 30 years at NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistence, the last several years as Deputy Commissioner.
He believed strongly in the importance of public education and served on the Guilderland School Board for 12 years.
He loved youth soccer and coached many of his children's teams over the years. He delighted in attending his children's and later grandchildren's activities be they soccer, hockey, music, dance or equestrian. He loved nature and was always on a quest to find huge waves at the ocean and to hike tall mountains with Anne. To not have him is sad and hard but he has left us with precious, personal and lasting memories that we will cherish every day.
Bob was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 52 years, Anne Mastro. His children, Nathan (Nicole) Mastro of Verona, NY and Nicole (Michael) Jacobson of Endicott, NY. His Grandchildren Trevor (Julia), Alexander, and Giavanna Mastro; and Abby and Mikki Jacobson. His sister Donna and brother in law Richard Moran and brother in law Arthur and his wife Phyllis Van Deusen. Also several nieces and nephews that were all dear to him.
To know him was to appreciate a man with a kind and sensitive heart who cared deeply for those he loved. His family was his world. We will hold onto his legacy of wit, integrity, kindness and love. In his memory please find a way to distribute kindness and goodness in this world.
There will be a visitation with the family on December 28, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY. Online condolences may be made at www.newcomeralbany.com
There is a Mayan saying that a person never dies as long as their name is spoken. Please speak his name in fondness often.
If you desire, in lieu of flowers please make contributions in Bob's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
