BALLSTON LAKE-Robert E. Murphy, Jr., 84 of Ballston Lake passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Baptist Health Center, Scotia after a lengthy illness. Robert was born March 13, 1929 in Albany, NY the son of the late Robert E. and Helen (Fuller) Murphy, Sr. He served in the US Navy and retired from Voorheesville Central School after many years of service. Robert was a member of various organizations, including Wadsworth Lodge #417 in Albany, Shriner Cypress Temple in Albany, life member of the VFW Post #1019 in Albany, past president of Cypress Motor Control and past Master of the NOAH Lodge #754 of the Free Masons. In addition, he was a past president of the Nite Owls, life member of the NRA, Beukendal Chapter #271 and Grand Lecturer in 1993.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary C. (Sator) Murphy. Robert and Mary were the first couple married in the new First Lutheran Church in Albany on December 11, 1954. He is also survived by his loving daughter Pamela (Allen) Jeffrey and loving sons Thomas (Robin) Murphy, Lawrence (special friend Patty Greene) Murphy and Roger (Jennifer) Murphy. He was grandpa and papa to his grandchildren Kristin Kelso, Jeremy and Colin Murphy, and Nicholas and Kaitlin Murphy and great grandson Andrew "Drew" Kelso. He also leaves behind his sisters Elizabeth "Betty" Scott (William deceased) and Maureen (Roland "Bud") Abare and several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Willard "Buddy" Murphy.
Calling hours will be held from 11 to 1 PM on Friday, October 4, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie with a funeral service to follow at 1PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or to the Masonic Home in memory of Robert.
Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
