Robert F. Norwood

November 27, 1935 — February 18, 2021

Robert F. Norwood was born on November 27, 1935 in Greenwood, MA. He passed away from covid-19 infection on February 18, 2021.

Bob's working career was centered around cars. He worked at the Carmen body shop in Schenectady, NY (1952-1968) and owned his own body shop in Schenectady, NY from 1973 to 2007. He also worked at the Bill Page Body Shop in Virginia and the Marsha Hallman Body Shop in Albany, NY (1970-1977).

Bob's friends and family will remember him as a caring business owner, often doing repair or maintenance work for the cost of supplies or a homemade pie. He was especially generous toward the elderly and widows. Bob was generous and giving with his time, helping to remodel a house, build a deck or handicapped access, whatever was needed. Loved by everyone, Bob was known as a "stand up kind of guy".

Bob, fondly known as Red, survived the passing of his mother Marion C. Norwood (July 15, 1908-January 14, 1976) and father Fayette R. Norwood (September 23, 1902-August 15, 1946), brother Lawrence Norwood, sisters Margaret Reed and Mary Price, and son Richard J. Norwood (August 28, 1955-June 23, 2009). Bob is survived by his brother James Norwood of Falls Creek, PA; sister Jane Smida of Albany, NY; stepchildren Kathy Vega and Bob Vega, both of Schenectady, NY; daughters Debra Daum (John) of St. Louis, MO; Patricia Norwood (Floyd Bourne) of Cooperstown, NY; and Robin Sickles (Thomas) of Vero Beach, FL. Bob was blessed with 26 nieces and nephews, 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Bob will be especially missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley F. Norwood, of whom Bob was fond of saying "she was the best thing that ever happened to him". Bob and Shirley liked going to Las Vegas though he hated to fly. In later years, they visited the Saratoga Casino.

His large vegetable garden was one of Bob's annual pleasures. He also enjoyed woodworking and playing cards with Shirley every evening. Dice and cards with family and friends was seasoned with a Budweiser or two in his younger years.

Bob donated his body to Albany Medical Center. A celebration of Bob's life will be held later in 2021.
