Robert Charles Pohalski

August 16, 1935 — December 7, 2017

Clifton Park---Robert Charles Pohalski, age 82, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017. He was the son of the late Andrew Pohalski and Edna Stackiewicz. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Sylvia; and his two loving sons, Christopher and Todd; and loving step son Bill Thurber.

Bob was born in East Meadow, Long Island, NY. He was a versatile athlete at Hempstead High School, where he ran track and starred on championship football and softball teams. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from military service, Bob worked briefly in construction before working the next 37 years as a computer systems analyst at the Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO) in Hicksville and the New York Power Pool in Guilderland, NY. He retired in 1994.

Bob married Delores Morano in 1959. He was a devoted husband and father to their two sons, Christopher and Todd. He volunteered as a coach and league coordinator for youth football and baseball leagues, as well as for leadership positions in the Father's Guild at St. Anthony's High School (Smithtown, NY), which both sons attended. He enjoyed taking his family to their lake cabin in Grafton, NY, for summer and the occasional winter weekends.

As a long-time member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Brunswick, NY, Bob regularly volunteered to support chapter events, raise money for veterans, and coordinate renting the hall for weddings and other celebrations.

Bob met Sylvia Fuller while volunteering at the Elks Club, and married her in 2005. They have lived in and around Clifton Park, NY, for the past 11 years.

Bob enjoyed bowling, golf and volunteering to help others. He is warmly remembered as a caring, decent, hardworking man; for his steady presence; for his devotion to his family and lifelong friends; and for his lifelong dedication to volunteering and helping those around him. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

Bob passed peacefully in his sleep due to end-stage dementia. In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by his brothers Benjamin Pohalski and Joseph Pohalski; and first wife Delores. He is preceded in death by siblings Constance Catalano, Frances Plourd, and Andrew Pohalski, Jr.
