Albany – Robert J. Schraa, Jr., 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 6, 1947, to the late Gertrude and Robert J. Schraa, Sr. After graduating from Philip Schuyler High School, Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969.
He worked for the New York State Department of Health for 28 years. After his retirement in 2008, Bob spent his time camping in the Adirondacks and snowbirding in the Florida Keys. He loved his morning routine, sharing a good meal, and relaxing in his recliner. Most of all, Bob enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He was an easy-going, generous, and loving man who treated everyone with kindness and respect. Bob had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and his "Bob-isms" will carry on long after he is gone. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, companion and friend. Bob will be fondly remembered by all those lucky enough to have known him.
He is survived by his children, Mary Sullivan, Joann Polmateer (Adam), Robert J. Schraa (Annalisa), and Patrick Schraa (Dawna); grandchildren, Colleen, Joseph, Monica, Kevin, Rebecca, Andrew, Aiden, Ashton, Ethan, Matthew and Amelia; and great-grandchild, Alice. He is also survived by his siblings, Barbara White and Michael Schraa (the late Donna), and many nieces and nephews. Bob will be dearly missed by his devoted companion Linda LaJoy and her loving family. He was predeceased by his daughter, Colleen Schraa, and his sister, Kathy Diederich.
