Colonie- Bob Watson, 87, a dedicated husband and father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022, after a long struggle with Mesothelioma.
Bob was the son of the late Louis and Evelyn Watson and graduated from West Side High School in Newark, NJ in 1954. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean War. On September 6, 1958, after being honorably discharged from the Navy, Bob married his beloved late wife, Patricia Higgins, and they raised their three children in Colonie. He was proud of the family they raised together. Bob worked for more than 30 years as a Greyhound bus driver and was a frequent recipient of the Greyhound Bus Driver Safety Award. After retiring from Greyhound, he worked at the Albany County Courthouse and later became a driver at the Albany International Airport. In retirement, Bob enjoyed puttering around the house and spending time with his cherished family.
Bob is survived by his children, Robert Watson (Susan) of Otis, MA, Eileen Mulligan (Kenneth Bauer) of Latham, NY, and Patricia Olsen (Mark) of Latham, NY. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Matthew (Elizabeth), Laura (Matthew), Sara (Thomas), Joseph (Heather), Rebecca, Andrew (Padraic), Benjamin, and Patrick, as well as five cherished great grandchildren: Hadelyn, Callum, Jade, June, and Mariella. Bob is survived by his sisters-in-law, Kathleen Denton and Beverly Higgins, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor, and nephew, Michael.
The family would like to thank Bob's neighbors, Alex and Marzana Jankowski and Ed and Michelle Galka, for always looking out for him and treating him like family. In addition, the family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by the attentive staff at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, who assisted Bob during his final three months of life.
Calling hours will be on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 9am to 11am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, with a funeral ceremony immediately following at the funeral home. Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. Anyone who wishes to remember Bob in a special way may send a donation in his name to The American Cancer Society or St Jude's Children's Hospital.
