Robert Henry Weatherby passed away on January 31, 2025, he was 91. He was married to Grace Eliza Weatherby for 66 years. He missed her greatly after she passed away on December 29, 2019.
Robert leaves behind children, Crystie Weatherby-Hilt (Gary Hilt), Thomas Weatherby (Sue Weatherby); brother Howard Weatherby (Jean Weatherby); grandchildren Courtney Weatherby (Zach Dubel), Cameron Weatherby, Kenneth R. Hilt, Curtis Weatherby, Danielle K. Hilt, Garret Giles Weatherby and Adele Giles Weatherby; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert (Bob) was a caring husband, father and grandfather. He cared deeply about his family and was generous and loving.
He loved to tell everyone he was perfect! Which of course we all ignored.
Bob met Grace in High School and they were married on June 13, 1953. They lived in Guilderland until a few years after he retired in 1989. Then they moved to Bonita Springs Florida. They returned to New York in 2004 to get away from the hurricanes and to be closer to family.
Bob’s career played a major role in his life. He worked his way up via the civil service process. Changing agencies and culminating his career as the Director of Purchasing at the New York State Thruway Authority. A major feat considering he did not have a college degree. He took as many classes as he could throughout his career and he always told his subordinates/co-workers to keep on taking those tests.
Bob could be charmingly vocal and a gentleman with family and strangers alike. Grace often said he could charm a monkey out of its tree. He had a wry sense of humor in the face of life’s difficulties and tried to face each day with a smile.
Bob loved to shop and loved to collect things. He enjoyed observing nature he was always watching and feeding the birds, chipmunks, squirrels and woodchucks on his deck. He enjoyed gardening and puttering around the house and yard.
Bob enjoyed a simple life, spending time with family, reading and watching interesting tv shows. Especially historical dramas, and those with theories about the unknown and aliens. He also enjoyed listening to music.
He looked forward to talking to his grandchildren on the phone and giving them advice. In later years it became more difficult for him. Sadly, his dementia stole many of those joys in life. He did brighten up when Adele would visit him in the nursing home in New Hampshire, she would read to him and color pictures with him.
He was loved and will be missed.
