Roberta Anna Sackett, 73, of Guilderland, passed away peacefully on March 23 at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Roberta was born in Hudson, N.Y. to the late Robert Emmett Sackett and Henrietta Mary Sackett. She was one of five siblings and is survived by her sisters, Mary Meacher of Germantown, Janice Winig of Ghent, and Jeanne Sackett of Schenectady. Her brother, Robert Sackett of Tennessee pre-deceased her.
Roberta is survived by her three children, Terry Austin of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., Karen Austin-Spinelli of Guilderland, N.Y. and David Austin of Delmar, N.Y. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren; David J. Austin, Calyn Austin, Brett Spinelli, Sarah Spinelli, Brea Spinelli, Roberta Shortell and Jack Shortell. She is also survived by her special friends, Maureen, Jeanne, Esther, Rita and Vera.
She was loved and admired for many things but obvious to most was her generous volunteer work with the impoverished, unmatched kindness, generosity, outspoken politics, gourmet cooking and love of earlier times. Roberta was an avid gardener, bird watcher and self-taught nutritionist. She was a licensed child care technician, followed by her role as a physical therapy assistant at the Teresian House, and a nurse's assistant at the Albany County Nursing Home.
The family would like to thank the medical staff of St. Peter's I.C.U., 4 Gabrilelove Pulmonary Unit, and 6th Nolan Riddle for their gentle care, encouragement, and healing presence. Special thanks to Wendy, Jim and Dorothy from the I.C.U., and Alice, Arabella, Lorraine, and Amy from 4 Gabrilelove Pulmonary Unit.
