SCHENECTADY – Roberta Kerl Smylie, 85, of Schenectady, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2005. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna O'Malley Kerl. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Mrs. Smylie was a licensed practical nurse at Ellis Hospital until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Church where she taught religious education and was a member of their Woman's Club and the Christ Child Society. Mrs. Smylie was also a member of St. Clare's Hospital Auxiliary, the Rotterdam Senior Citizens and Annie Schaeffer Senior Citizens. She volunteered with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile, St. Clare's Hospital, Schenectady County Library, Hallmark Nursing Home, Kingsway Arms Nursing Home and Sunnyview Hospital. Roberta was the beloved wife of the late James T. Smylie. She is the devoted mother of Sylvia Brancatelli and her husband, Michael of Niskayuna and the late Thomas Smylie. She is the sister-in-law of William Smylie of Rotterdam. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) then to St. Gabriel's Church, at 9:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
