Robin Hyman

May 16, 1958 — December 30, 2019

Surrounded by her closest loved ones, Robin Hyman was called home on December 30, 2019. Robin was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 16, 1958. She was one of seven children born to Nora Lee Hyman and Thomas Johnson. As a child, Robin loved school and excelled academically. Upon graduation from high school, she attended SUNY at Albany. Following her studies and in due time, Robin decided to put down roots and made Albany, NY her home. Professionally, Robin joined the NYS Department of Higher Education Corporation, enjoying a successful career until retirement in 2010. She became a faithful member of the Sweet Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of her longtime friend Reverend Dr. Elgin J. Taylor, Sr.

Of all the joys and accomplishments in Robin's life, nothing made her happier than her role as mother to her beloved children, Ron and Azana and her role as grandmother, to her beautiful grandchildren Deron and Rory. Her children and grandchildren were truly the light of her life.

Beyond being a dedicated mother and grandmother, those that knew Robin well, know several other things to be true. First and foremost, Robin was the life of the party! She loved a good get-together, like an Elton Street BBQ where she could laugh with family and friends. Robin was known for signature dance move the "Bunny Hop"- it was truly a sight to see. Robin enjoyed watching crime shows, trying new recipes and LOVED a good sale! She enjoyed weekend shopping trips with her ride or die buddies Tinnia and Tonni.

Among the endless things that made Robin so special and adored, was her big heart and her honesty. Whether you wanted the truth or not - Robin would give it to you straight with no sugar coating. Despite her direct approach, her honesty was always rooted in genuine love and compassion. Robin was a one-of-one with an infectious joy that could light up the darkest of rooms. An irreplaceable daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, she will be missed beyond words.

Robin is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Johnson and two brothers, Bobby Jones Jr. and Jack Hyman. She is survived by her mother, Nora L. Hyman and stepdad, Big Bobby Jones, siblings: Diana Rahmaan, Raymond Hyman, Thomas Hyman, and Denise Jones, children: Ron Royal and Azana Headspeth, grandchildren: Deron Royal and Rory Royal, nieces: Tiffany Walker, Norell Jones, Nineveh Jones, Emani Jones and Diamond Watkins, nephews: Darius Walker, Raymond Hyman Jr. and Javon Gause, brother-in-law Salahudeen Rahmaan and sister-in-law Lucille Hyman, a host of great-nieces/nephews: Paris, Devin, Medina, Naeemah, Khadijah, Abdullah, Salima, Safa, and a host of family and friends very dear to her heart. All of whom loved her dearly and will never forget her generosity, tenacity, wit, charm, and grace.
