ALBANY – Rocco D'Amico, 84, of Albany, passed away on Friday July 16, 2010 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved husband of Helen Drabick D'Amico, whom he was married to for over 59 years.
Rocco was born in Albany on April 6, 1926 and was the son of the late Pietro and Nunziata Leone D'Amico. Rocco was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Wantuck (APD 125) in the South Pacific during World War II. He received the Atlantic Pacific Ribbon (2 Stars), Philippines Liberation, Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, and Victory Medal for his service. He worked at his father's store on Madison Ave. in Albany (Boston Food Market) after the war and was employed by Albany Public Market and Shop Rite supermarkets for over 35 years. Rocco loved spending time with his family, gardening and wine making.
Besides his wife Helen, Rocco is survived by his two sons, Rocco D'Amico of Watertown, CT and his wife Colleen, and Stephen D'Amico of Niskayuna, and his wife Deborah. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Peter, Marta, Anna, William and David. He is the brother of Margaret (Peggy) Romanzo of Colonie and the late Grace Fischer, Donata (Nettie) Ranalli and Angelina D'Amico.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 8:30 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to All Saints Catholic Church (formerly St. Margaret Mary) at 9:30 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Rocco P. D'Amico.
