LATHAM –Roger Joseph Archer, 80, of Latham, passed away peacefully under hospice care on Tuesday September 13, 2011.
Roger was born in Columbus, Ohio and was the son of the late Joseph C Archer and Mary Jane Wein Archer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Florence Ann Jones.
Surviving are his daughters, Suzanne d'Aversa of Guilderland, Connie Fedden (Chris) of Colonie, Linda Moore (John) of Pittsboro, NC, Alice Archer of Albany, and son, James Archer of Marion, VA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Cheryl Fruiterman (David), David d'Aversa, Jon-Paul d'Aversa, and Marea Wright (Ken) all from Albany, Michael Moore (Tara), Andrew Moore, Daniel Moore, Bradley Archer (RaChelle), Rachel Archer, and Jerry Archer all of North Carolina, seven great grandchildren, and brothers-in-law Howard Jones Jr. (Marge) of Clarence Center, NY, and Thomas Nye, of Cardington, OH .
He was also predeceased by his brother, James B. Archer, sister, Cheryl Nye, and son-in-law, Robert d'Aversa.
Roger was a graduate of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where he received his BS degree in Chemistry. He retired in 1986 from the U.S. Geological Survey – Water Division. He enjoyed retirement traveling with his wife and sharing time with his family at their summer home on Hadlock Pond. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.
The family extends their warmest thanks and appreciation to the medical and hospice staff on the 6th floor of Albany Memorial Hospital for their professional and merciful care provided to Roger and his family.
Funeral services will be Saturday September 17 at 11am at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 645 Watervliet-Shaker Rd. Latham. Calling hours will be Friday September 16 from 6pm to 8pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Interment will be in Memory Gardens.
