Lakeland, FL/Knox, NY- Ronald F. Martin, 76, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 with his family by his side.
Ron was born in Albany, NY on December 4, 1938 to the late Earl and Elizabeth Martin. Ron graduated from Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School in 1957. After high school Ron began his career of over 40 years in construction. In 1961, he was drafted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany where he served his country honorably. Ron married the love of his life, Barbara in 1960.
Ron will be remembered for his love of sports, especially golf, baseball, and basketball. In October 2015, his 1956 high school basketball team was inducted into the BKW Hall of Fame. He was very proud of his three hole-in-ones in Schalamar Creek Country Club, in Lakeland, FL. He loved coaching his son in Little League, and continued coaching for many years after.
Ron is recently predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara. He is also predeceased by his siblings; Gladys Filkins, Elizabeth Santo, Ralph Martin, George Martin, and Gordon Martin.
He is survived by his children; Daphne (Jeff) Hilt, Deborah Howard, and Ronald (Lori) Martin Jr., his grandchildren; Olivia, Tessa, Eva, Amanda, Meghan, Paul, Stephanie, Nathaniel, Nicholas, Alyssa, Kyle, and Evana, his siblings, Gerald Martin, and Mae Seeberger.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 12:00pm- 3:00pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Kateri Tekakwitha, 1803 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12309 at 9:00am.
