Rose Mae passed away peacefully on November 13th, 2019 at the Teresian Home for the Elderly in Albany, New York. She was born on March 4th, 1936 in the very rural "back woods" of Tuskegee, Alabama. She was the daughter of Emma Talley Echols and Will Echols. Her young life was unrestricted and full of wonder.
Many years later, after giving birth to her beautiful daughter, Mary Elizabeth, she moved north to New York to pursue bigger opportunities. In Harlem, New York in 1958, she met and later married Alexander Emmanuel Dalmida Sr. from St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The diagnosis of Alzheimer's greatly altered Rose's quality of life. However, several kindly caregivers such as Ms. Vera Smith and Ms. Debra Quetal worked valiantly on her behalf throughout it all. She is predeceased in death by her mother Emma Talley Echols, her beloved aunt, Rachel Dubose, her daughter, Mary Elizabeth, her husband, Alexander Emmanuel Dalmida, Sr. From that union, they had two children, Brenda Joy Dalmida and Alexander Emmanuel Dalmida Jr. She is also survived by a host of friends, family, nieces, nephews and numerous grand and great grand children.
While Rose enjoyed the company of family and friends, a few of her special delights included, baby shark fishing with her father-in-law, Walter Dalmida on St. John, masterfully cooking traditional southern and west indian dishes, chilling to the music of Nina Simone, playing bid whist Saturday nights while sipping on Tanqueray Gin and grapefruit juice, 'stepping out' on the town with her special friends, Nancy Brown and Nancy Cherry Yon, as well as singing in her church senior choir on Sundays.
Calling hours will be held from 11- 12 PM with funeral services to follow at noon on November 20th at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY. Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Teresian House, 200 Washington Ave., Ext. Albany, NY 12203, in Rose's name.
