COLONIE - Rose M. Fantroy, 70, passed away at home with her devoted husband on November 28, 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Rose was born in Albany on November 10, 1951 to the late Louis J. and Mary M. (Danzig) Caracciolo. She was educated in Albany schools and was a long time resident of the Town of Colonie. Rose worked for many years at Dunkin Donuts, and over 35 years for Price Chopper - Delaware Avenue, Colvin Plaza, and Madison Avenue - working her way up to Customer Service Manager. If she didn't hire you for your first job, chances are you know someone that worked with her. Everyone loved "Mama Rose".
Rose enjoyed travelling, especially to Hilton Head, Cape Cod, Las Vegas and Disney. She was a longtime member of Albany Handicrafters and looked forward to monthly dinners with the "Chopper Hoppers". She frequented local casinos and loved summer in Saratoga. Rose loved spending time with her family and friends. Many a sunny day was spent under the shade of the Maple tree in the backyard, watching her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their friends work and play. Rose was an animal lover. Over the years just about every animal came to live with her: cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, iguanas, birds, mice, guinea pigs, snakes, and even a few stray humans. Some she adopted, some her children brought home, and some were given by friends. However they came to her, she took them in and loved them all.
Rose is survived by her husband Savina "Beano" Fantroy; her children Jeffrey (Kelley) Smith, Maria (Michael) Maloney, Jason (Audrey D'Agostino) Smith, and Jennifer (Christopher Mills) Smith; grandchildren Amber (James) Garthe, Brandon Smith, Christina Mills, William Mills and Julianna Smith; great grandchildren Jace Sutton and Colton Garthe; her brothers Michael (Linda Krolak) Wagner and James Caracciolo; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives in the Fantroy and Caracciolo families. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Robert Mills.
Relatives and friends may call at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie on Wednesday, December 8th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with services at 6:30 pm.
