ALBANY - Rosemary A. Fike, 94, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2016 at Teresian House, her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Rose Fike.
Rosemary was born, raised and lived most of her life in New York City. As a Girl Scout she had the opportunity to sell the first box of Girl Scout cookies to the the president's wife, Mrs. Herbert Hoover! Rosemary started her professional career as secretary at the R.J. Polk Company. Her talent and skills enabled her to quickly rise through the ranks of the 'madmen' world of advertising becoming executive
secretary to the CEO. When the firm closed in the mid-seventies, Rosemary started a new career at a financial firm on Wall Street. A short time later, she was named vice president in charge of sales. Serving in this capacity for several years, she retired in the early eighties to her summer home in the Hamptons.
Rosemary enjoyed the many cultural opportunities the city had to offer, particularly the theater, museums and fine dining. Her independent spirit encouraged her to travel widely both in this countryand abroad. She journeyed in balloons over Napa Valley, rode donkeys to the base of Grand Canyon,and floated down the Great Canal in gondolas. She was a staunch supporter of women's rights andmarched down Fifth Avenue in 1970 in the women's strike for equality sponsored by NOW. Rosemary was an accomplished artist and created many beautiful portraits and landscapes admired by friends and
family. She was a reader, writer, poet, gardener but most of all a treasured sister and aunt.
She is survived by her 2 nieces, Jane Poklemba and her husband Michael Dutkowsky of Loudonville, Joyce Brazino and her husband Joseph of Philadelphia, PA; and great-niece, Jill Poklemba of Forest Hills,NY. She was predeceased by her three siblings, Isabelle Ackerman, Raymond Fike and Walter Fike Jr.
Private graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY.
