SCHENECTADY- Roswell (Ross) M. Makara 66, passed away suddenly on Thursday September 20, 2012 at the Stratton VA Medical Center. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on July 24, 1946.
Ross was predeceased by his parents, Joseph P. Makara Sr. and Eileen Light Makara and his sister, Marie Makara. He is survived by his wife Joyce Makara; his son Mark (Laurie) Makara and his daughter Michele Makara; his grandchildren Julian and Matthew Serrano, Sean, Joseph and Heather Makara; his brothers, Joseph P. Makara Jr. and Thomas Makara; his stepmother Margaret (Peggy) Makara and step sisters, Linda (John) Marshall, Nancy Griffin and Kathy (George) Steele and many other relatives.
Ross was an IC3 Electrician in the US Navy from 1965 through 1969. He served two tours in Vietnam. Ross was a member of VFW Post 357, Boy Scout # 357, Men's Club of St. Paul's. GE Century Club and Schenectady Model Railroad. He retired from GE in 2003 after a long career. He had a passion for model trains and cars. Ross loved spending time with his grandchildren particularly as a Chartered Organization Representative and Past Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 357 in Schenectady. Ross was an active and proud member of St. Paul the Apostle Church.
Calling hours will be Monday September 24, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning September 26, 2012 at 9am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Schenectady. Entombment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
