ALBANY- Roy Paul Harvin Sr., peacefully entered rest on Thursday January 8, 2009 at Van Rensselaer Manor surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 10, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Roy was the husband of the late Helen Addison Harvin. He is survived by two sons, Roy (Carol) Harvin of Troy and Jerry Harvin of Buffalo; five grandchildren, Natasha M. Harvin Esq. of East Greenbush, Stanley Harvin of Massachusetts, Mecca Harvin of Virginia, Jaquasia Willis of Troy and Kertrica Willis of Hudson and five great grandchildren. He is the brother of Ms. Williebird Harvin of Albany; brother in law of Roosevelt Addison, Mrs. Carrie Burrison, Rodney Addison and Mrs. Elma Grady. He was the brother to the late Willie Floyd Powe, Grace Fennel, Mary Johnson, Mamie Ferguson, Louise Harvey, Shirley Wright and Marshall Harvey. Brother in law to the late Rosemary Brown, Betty Lou Addison and Lewis Addison.
Mr. Harvin was an avid fisherman and enjoyed crafts. He was very creative designing sculptures and artwork with his hands. He was a member of the Union Missionary Baptist Church where he served until his illness. He was a US Army veteran during the Korean War. Roy was employed for over twenty five years at Tobin Packing Company in West Albany.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 11:00 at Union Baptist Church, 3 Morton Ave Albany. Calling hours will be 9 to 11 am at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. To leave a special message for the family online, visit NewcomerAlbany.com
Mr. Harvin was a loving father, brother, grandfather, father in law, brother in law, cousin, relative and friend to many.
