Roy Y. Gomez, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 24, 2010.
Roy was born in Detroit, MI to the late Antonio and Socorro Gomez. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was the recipient of the Victory Medal. He has also been involved with the American Legion for many years serving as the Past County Commander, the Past 3rd and 4th District Commander, the National Americanism Committee and the Commander of the A.J. Scully Post in Albany. In addition to his parents, Roy is predeceased by his wife Catherine.
Roy is survived by his children; Carol (Russ) Boisvert, David (Mani) Gomez and Jay (Karen) Gomez; his grandchildren, Scot (Beth) Boisvert, Debrah (Troy) Suessmith, Kay Gomez, Jordan Gomez and Sara Gomez; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt.155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville following the service.
In lieu of the flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street Schenectady, NY 12308 or to the Boys State c/o Joseph E. Zaloga Post1520, 4 Everett Rd. Albany, NY 12205. The Albany County American Legion is to meet at the funeral home at 6:30pm.
