COLONIE – Russell P. Hood, 82, of Colonie passed way on Thursday June 1, 2006 at the Inn of Community Hospice after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born in Newark, NJ and was the son of the late Clarence and Elsie Hood.
Russ was a member of the first graduating class at Columbia High School. He was a US Marine Corp veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He worked for the former New York Central Railroad and as a letter carrier with the US Postal services, retiring several years ago. He was a member of the NALC Branch 29, VFW Post 8692, Moose Lodge #80, Marine Corp League and the Colonie Elks 2192. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Newcomerfamily.com
He was predeceased in 2000 by his beloved wife Dorothy Gonya Hood. He is the beloved father of Karen Cazasta (Edward) of Guilderland, Lorrie Vellano (John) of Latham and Nancy Smith of Colonie. He is the brother of the late Violet Loguidice, Charles Hood and Ruth Hood. He is the grandfather Robert Groat, Susan Feldman (Travis), Amber (Mike) Liegeot, Alan Bernard, John Paul Vellano and James Vellano; great grandfather of Nicholas Shellenberger, Jordan Mitchell, Vanessa & Skyler Liegeot. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 11:00 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorys Garden.
