Ruth Elizabeth Gokey

Colonie - Ruth Elizabeth Gokey, 89, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 with her loving husband by her side. Ruth was the daughter of Arthur LeGrand Kimmey, Sr. and Jeannette (Morrow) Kimmey.

Ruth grew up in Watervliet, NY. After graduating from Watervliet High School she worked for the telephone company. She married Frank Gokey in 1949 and was a devoted wife and mother to their four children for 68 years. She never missed a Halloween parade, school play, or ball game. She relished all the different hats she wore over the years…daughter, sister, wife, mother, homemaker, working woman, grandmother, and retiree.

She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Albany Shaker Road Fire Department. Ruth enjoyed gardening, golfing and vacationing. She had fun working with ceramics, and was an avid home decorator – her true calling.

Ruth is survived by her husband Frank, children Christine (Denis) Durnan, Gail L. Gokey, Ric (Janet) Gokey, and Brenda (David) Szesnat. Grandchildren Joseph and Michelle Mantello; Trevor and Tanner Gokey; Paul Holsberger; Melissa and Jaimee Szesnat. Great-grandchildren Jayden Szesnat and Remi Laine Lobello. As well as several nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her brothers and their spouses Arthur and Martha Kimmey and Donald and Helen Kimmey, and granddaughter Taila Pairis.
