Ruth Louise Mcrae

August 2, 1926 — February 2, 2015

DELMAR-Ruth Louise McRae, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. She was born in Jersey Shore, PA, the daughter of the late Robert Lisle and Jennie (Rohe) Jacobus. She served in the US Marine Corps as a recruiter from 1953 to 1957. Ruth was employed by GE in Schenectady, Matthew Bender in Menands and retired from Holland Warehouse in Albany. Ruth was a member of the Marine Corps League and volunteered at area nursing homes and assisted living facilities. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family. Ruth was a true animal lover. She always had a pet that she adopted from animal shelters. Ruth was a loving, passionate and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her life. Ruth was predeceased by her sister Betty Larson, brothers William Jacobus and Samuel Jacobus who inspired Ruth to join the Marine Corps.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 54 years Gordon H. McRae; son Robert L. McRae (Carol) and daughter Clarisa J. McRae (Walter); grandchildren Megan T. Beauchemin (Christopher) and Michael R. McRae (Diana); nephews Peter Jacobus, John V. Dundon III and Jeffrey Taylor and sisters-in-law Phyllis Taylor of Kansas City, MO and Jean McRae of Albany, NY. She is also survived by her dear friend from the Marine Corp. Joan Pusich of Wisconsin and her close friends of over 45 years Barbara Javery of Florida and Charlene Shehadi of Baldwinsville, NY. She loved the Shehadi children as her own.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the incredible compassion and care Ruth received over her many visits to the Stratton VA Hospital. Most especially, we are grateful to the wonderful staff and volunteers of the 9B Hospice wing who made sure Ruth's journey was as comfortable as possible. We admire and respect you all more than words can say. Thank You.

At Ruth's request there will be no services.

Contributions may be made to any veteran's organizations of one's choice or the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204 in memory of Ruth.
