Ruth Pauline Brundage

d. February 1, 2011

EAST GREENBUSH – Ruth Pauline Brundage, 86, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Pauline transitioned into another part of life's journey after loving friends and family said goodbye to her.
Pauline was born on June 8, 1924 in Oakfield, NY and was the daughter of the late Ethel Mae (Morris) and Ralph Brundage. She grew up on the family farm with her brothers Robert and Barney. After college she moved to the Capital Region and lived in Rensselaer county most of the time. She was an active outdoors person who loved skiing, camping, and hiking. She swam in her beloved lake in Vermont and walked in her cherished desert in Arizona. Her friends and family have wonderful memories and laugh-out-loud stories of times spent with her.
Pauline was a brilliant research chemist who graduated from Penn State University and earned a Ph. D in chemistry from RPI. She worked for Sterling-Winthrop Research Institute for over 40 years and during that time she and her work group wrote journal articles and patented cardiotonic and bactericidal medications. She fought the good fight with SWRI administrators over their ageist policies.
Mostly she will be remembered and loved for her tireless advocacy on behalf of women rights and human rights. She was a president of local NOW and she lobbied in the NYS legislature to enact legislation securing personal rights and benefits for women, children and families. Her generous nature provided support to a number of organizations like The Women's Building, the Capital Region Legal Project, local animal shelters, and homeless shelters. For the past four years she has paid tuition for two orphaned students in Tanzania.
Pauline was an exemplary friend and human being. We are all relieved that her transition was calm and without pain or anxiety. She simply slipped away but she will be in our hearts forever.
There will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to The Women's Building, 373 Central Ave., Albany, NY 12206 or to the Salvation Army, 452 Clinton Ave., Albany, NY 12206.
