Troy- Ruthanne Fennelly, 68, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 with her loving family by her side. Ruthanne was the daughter of the late Frank and Zana Coates.
Ruthanne has many awards from her volunteer work with organizations such as rape crisis and the Girl Scouts of America. She has been a long time staunch advocate for families and children in both the mental health and child welfare arena. Ruth worked for many area organizations such as Rensselaer County, CEO and Vanderheyden just to name a few. She was a sought after speaker in state and federal Government on how best to support families. She also served on the Board of Directors.
Ruthanne enjoyed celebrating Christmas with her loved ones and helping families in her community. She will always be remembered for her compassion and the differences she made in the lives of so many, who will truly cherished her care.
Ruthanne is survived by her children, Venetta M. Mackewice, Michael D. Fennelly, Donald Fennelly; grandchildren, Seamus, Zana and Zoey Fennelly, as well as Fallon Mackewice; brothers, Thomas (Debbie) Coates and Frank (Tara) Coates; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Ruthanne is predeceased by her sisters, Marybeth and Meg Coates; her niece, Zana Coates.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady, New York 12189 on Thursday December 2, from 10am to 12pm with a funeral service at 12pm. The burial will follow the service at St. Agnes cemetery, 48 Cemetery Ave, Menands, NY 12204.
The celebration of Ruthannes life will be to the theme of her favorite holiday, Christmas. The family gracefully asks that all who come or choose to send something in her honor to keep her love of Christmas in mind.
