VOORHEESVILLE, NY- S. Frank Kodra, 80, formerly of Voorheesville, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, Schenectady, NY after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Frank was born in Decatur, NY the son of the late Johanna (Panter) and Frank Kodra, Jr. and graduated from Schoharie Central School in 1951. An Army Veteran serving as MP from 1954-1957, he then worked as Deputy Sheriff in Schoharie County for many years. Frank was employed for 26 years by the NYS Thruway Authority as a radio dispatcher and accident investigator, retiring in 1995.
An active member of the Voorheesville Volunteer Ambulance for over 25 years and member of St. Matthew's Catholic Parish in Voorheesville for over 40 years. He was an avid hunter, camper, gardener, square dancer and bowler. Frank also loved to play pinochle and games with his family. Co-owner of Kodra's Affordable Crafts with his wife Anna for over 20 years. "Frank's chicken" BBQs were a family favorite. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His meticulous attention to detail, honesty, unrelenting work ethic, volunteerism and sense of humor will not be forgotten.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Anna (Gruner) Kodra; his loving children Karen Setia (Voorheesville, NY), Keith Kodra (East Berne, NY), Kathleen Kodra-Carlock (Francis) (Colonie, NY) and Kyle Kodra (Daneen) (San Diego, CA), and Oliver, his beloved cat of 16 years who has been waiting in heaven for the past two weeks to sit on his lap; cherished grandchildren Adam (Britney), Alison (Brian), Alyssa, David, Ashley (Eric), Antonet and Jacob. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Renee, Leo, Abby and Blake; his loving twin younger sisters Mary Schultz (Schoharie, NY) and Betty Boreali (Cobleskill, NY) and several nieces and nephews.
Special heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Luvera for his unwaivering compassion, superb care and genuine concern for Frank's well-being and healing.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie with a funeral service to immediately follow at 4:00 PM.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Voorheesville Area Volunteer Ambulance Squad or the Parkinsons Disease Foundation in memory of Frank.
