ALBANY – Saluda Lownes, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 18, 2011. Born in Yanceyville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Mallie (Williamson) Lownes.
Saluda was a child care provider and foster parent for many years. She was known as "Gram" to almost everyone.
Saluda is survived by her daughter Donna (John) Robinson of Colonie; son David (Maria) Kinzer of FL; sisters Doris Bartlett of NC, and Margaret (Sampson) Hughes of SC; brothers James Ward Lownes and Frank Lownes, both of Albany, and Charles (Jackie) Lownes of NC; daughter in law Emma Thompson; grandchildren Tina (Jose) Santiago, Cheryl Egiebor, Jerome Lownes, Warren Lownes, Nygina Kinzer, Isabel Renteria, Jose Renteria, Sean Kinzer, Mark Kinzer, Jason Kinzer, and Jai Lownes; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and dear friend, Clarice Milliken. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Saluda was predeceased by her son, Richard Lownes; daughter Loretta Kinzer; three brothers, and a sister.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at The First Church in Albany, 110 North Pearl Street, Albany. A calling hour will precede the service from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
