ALBANY, NY – Salvatore A. Gimondo, 87, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born in Calabria, Italy and lived in Albany for most of his life. Sal was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country during World War II. He retired as furnishings manager at SUNY, Albany. Sal was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. He was an active volunteer with the Northeastern Association of the Blind. Sal was the beloved husband of the late Wanda Gimondo. He is the devoted father of Gary (Linda) Gimondo of Latham, Ron (Dorilynn) Gimondo of Chandler, OK, Charlene (Stanley) Dzialo of East Greenbush, Sal (Lara Comithier) Gimondo of South Westerlo and the late Danny J. Gimondo. He is the loving brother of James Gimondo of Albany and the late Joseph Gimondo. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Community Hospice of Albany for all of the care and support given to Sal during this most difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Funeral services will be Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be on Tuesday morning at 10:00 at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 or the Northeastern Association of the Blind, 301 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12203 in memory of Salvatore A.
