COLONIE- Salvatore Nastasi, 88, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday May 18, 2008 at the Inn of Community Hospice at St. Peters Hospital. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Vincent and Carmella Garufi Nastasi.
Sal was a 1938 graduate of Philip Schuyler High School and served in the US Army during WWII and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a letter carrier for US Postal Service for over thirty years. Sal was a member of the Albany Elks #49. He was an avid dancer and Boston Red sox fan. Sal had a remarkable sense of humor. He will always be Pop-Pop to his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sal was predeceased by his wife, Jane Thomas Nastasi, his son in law, Joseph Colletti and his grandson Daniel Colletti and his devoted dog, Max.
He is the beloved husband of Norine VanDenburg Nastasi. He is the loving father of Carol Colletti, Vincent (Marge) Nastasi, Maria Nastasi. He is also survived by Skip, Gary (Karen), Chris (Lynne) and Scott (Paula) VanDenburg, Gail (Jon) Petrecky and Connie Kennedy. He is the brother of Connie (Angelo) Moscheo. He is the grandfather of Heather (Tom) Burke, Christin (Greg) Meyer, Jennifer Colletti, Nicole, Melissa, Celinda and Vinnie Nastasi. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 12 noon at NewComer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd. Albany NY 12205 in memory of Salvatore Nastasi.
