Salvatore A. Sestito

Latham- Salvatore Alfred Sestito, "Sal", 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 15, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Born in Troy New York on November 13th 1927, son of the late Joseph and Mary Armao Sestito. Sal was a resident of Latham for the past 60 years.

Sal attended Troy public schools and graduated from Troy High School, class of 1945. He graduated from Siena College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Sal was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Quartermaster Board in Washington D.C. and Camp Lee Virginia. After being honorably discharged from the Army he finished his studies at Siena College in 1950.

Sal was employed by the Norton Company formerly Behr Manning in Watervliet, New York. He retired in 1986 after 30 years. While at Norton he was the chief of security and manager of plant services. After retirement in 1986 he began his career as a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy New York. In his 30 years at the Hospital he was voted volunteer of the year on two occasions. He also served as the chef at the Colonie Elks 2192 for 15 years. He was a life member for the past 49 years. Sal was a proud member of ABC Sports and Fitness, where he attended the silver sneakers classes with his friends.

Sal liked to vacation in Aruba every year at his Timeshare at Playa Linda for 20 years. He also liked to go to the Casino's. Sal traveled to Las Vegas, Hawaii, Florida, Disney World and to San Francisco. He had a great sense of humor and would always make everyone laugh. Sal was also a great cook. Most of all he loved being with his family.

In addition to his parents, Sal was predeceased by his brother, Nicholas Sestito and his wife Edna; as well as his sister, Marion Delory and her husband George "Pic".

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther (Walthers) Sestito; his sons, John J. ( Wendy) Sestito and Robert J. (Lisa) Sestito; his daughter, Mary E. (Joseph) Keane; 4 grandchildren, Joseph (Jenny) Cala, Brianna (Kevin) Rushforth, Lauryn (Christopher) Falvo, and Joshua Goldstein; 4 great grandchildren, Reilly RushForth, Addison Cala, Mackenzie Cala, Joseph Cala and baby boy Falvo on the way. He had many Nieces and nephews who he was very close to, as well as many cousins. His favorite cousin, Mary Ann Hannum who we appreciate so much for everything she has done for us.

He was a member of St. Ambrose Church in Latham.

We would like to thank Sandi from Hospice for always being there for us. We also want to thank all the Nurses and Aides on B1 & B2 for everything you did for him at Van Rensselaer Manor. The family would also like to thank Carolyn from Social Services.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Tuesday September 20, 2022 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2022 at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Rd, Latham, New York at 9:00am with burial to follow the service at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, New York.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
