ALBANY - Samuel J. Blanton, 83, of Albany, passed away on Friday April 19, 2013. He was born in Albany on October 27, 1929 to the late Eldridge and Cora Lee Blanton.
He attended Albany Public schools and graduated from Philip Schuyler High School. Sam, better known as "Shaft", served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked as a longshoreman at the Port of Albany for many years, retiring in the late 1980's.
He is survived by his only daughter, Cynthia Cherry of Maryland; 3 grandchildren Nishan, Je-Neal and Matthew and a great grandson Riniko.
"Shaft" is the brother of Virginia Young of Albany, whom he had resided with for over 25 years. He is the cherished uncle of Timothy, Bruce, Keelyn and Kelly Young all of Albany and a host of grand nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are3 invited to attend Memorial Services on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 1:30 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Albany NY 12211 in memory of Samuel J. Blanton.
