November 4, 1945 — July 31, 2019
ALBANY, NY - Samuel Matthew West, Sr., 73, departed this life and gained his wings to heaven on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, NC with peace and happiness. He was surrounded by his wife, Judy Dianne and his sister-in-law, Jean, who was assisting with care for Sam.
Samuel was born on November 4, 1945 in Albany, NY to the late Samuel West and Mary Slaughter West. He graduated from Schayler High School in Albany and attended Hudson Valley Community College. Sam worked at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in Albany for 32 years and retired in 2002 and moved to Goldsboro, NC.
Samuel is survived by his loving wife, Judy Dianne Bynum West; one son, Samuel M. (Ericka) West, Jr. of Albany, NY: one stepdaughter, Terricka Threatt (Fernado) of Albany, NY; one sister, Mary Delois West of Goldboro, NC; three step grandchildren, Kiara, Kilahri and Treylan Cortina; one great granddaughter, Stefani; six brothers-in-law, Curtis, Irving, Carl, Calvin, Doug and Fred Bynum all of Goldsboro, NC; four sisters-in-law, Jean Bynum, who was his assistant caregiver of the home, Brenda Blackmon of Virginia, Lorraine Bynum of Dudley, NC and Robin Jones of Albany, NY; two nephews, Derrell Trotter and Dennis Nelson, Jr. both of Dudley, NC; one niece, La'Key Milton of Goldboro, NC; one great niece, Aaliyah Trotter of Dudley, NC and a host of cousins and friends in Albany, NY.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Albany, NY.
