Sandra D. Pickens, 55, passed away at her home on August 4, 2015 after a long illness.
Sandy was born December 27, 1959, in Stuebenville, Ohio, the daughter of the late William and Ruth (Church) Quick.
Sandy touched the lives of those around her wherever she went. As a home health aide, she reached out in a special way to those in need, forming many close friendships.
As a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, she volunteered her time bringing meals to the home bound and helped with the Vacation Bible School.
Sandy was very compassionate towards animals. As a volunteer for Animal Lovers, she took in dogs that desperately needed a home and helped others do the same.
She worked for ten years as a sales associate at Sam's Club in Latham, where she was much loved. In recent years she spent time, sewing and crocheting blankets and making clothes for her infant grandson.
Sandy cherished her family and her faith in Jesus above all. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and most herself when able to give in some way to others. Her life story, faith and perseverance through illness continue to serve as an inspiration to all who knew her.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 34 years, Albert Pickens; sons Zachary (Sarah Crowe) Pickens and Albie (Katie) Pickens; grandson Thomas Pickens; sisters Bonnie Quick and Laurie Hunsinger; niece Christina (Marvin) Wilson, their children Chloe and Christian Wilson and Genavieve Goodman along with many other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave. Menands, NY 12204 in Sandy's memory.
