Sandra Joy Fuller (Zimmer), 77, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024 at home with her family. She was born August 5, 1946, the youngest child of Howard & Florence Zimmer of Berne, NY. She truly was the joy of the family. Following graduation from Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Sandra received her BA from SUNY Albany.
In 1968, she married Paul Fuller. They resided in Guilderland, with their two children, Rebecca Anne and Jason Andrew. As a stay-at-home Mom, Sandra enjoyed having the neighborhood kids over with big trays of sandwiches & pitchers of Kool Aid always served! She enjoyed her family outings to Thacher Park & camping at Thompson's Lake (close to her Berne roots & family).
Sandra spent 30 years as a researcher for the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research at the University at Albany, retiring in 2015. During that time, a special ladies group of friends was formed. They traveled, went to movies, played cards & scrabble - often organized by Anne Dowling - Sandra's friend of 60 years. Anne has become a special Aunt to Rebecca, Jason & the grandkids too.
Sandra is survived by her adult children, Rebecca Gryn & Jason Fuller. Her grandchildren, Sarah, Kelli, and Kyle lovingly called her Ama. She loved spending time with them, sharing picnics in the yard, swinging, and playing games. Ama was famous for surprise pick ups from daycare so they could play at her house & have dinner. Sleep overs were always the best!
During recent years, as Sandra's Alzheimer's disease progressed, she was lovingly cared for by her children, Rebecca and Jason, as well as her grandchildren. Sandra's family includes her brother, Howard Zimmer (Kristine), her sister Patricia Carman (George), her nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She is predeceased by her favorite nephew, David.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Monday March 11, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
