Sandra Keller Schirmer, 80, passed peacefully on November 17, 2014. Born in Wellington, Kansas, she earned multiple degrees from University of Texas at Austin, completing her M.S. in Biology and post-graduate work in Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) and Endocrinology at SUNY New Paltz. She worked as a parole officer in CA and TX, eventually becoming a teacher of A&P, Chemistry and Biology for over 30 years. Her teaching career included positions in Hudson High School, Rondout Valley High School, St. Francis Preparatory School and Marist College in New York; she finished her teaching career at Fort Lauderdale Preparatory.
Sandra published over 40 articles in numerous magazines (Travel, Catholic Digest, etc.). She earned multiple awards and honors for her excellence in teaching. Mrs. Schirmer always set an example of commitment, hard work and generosity. She will be deeply missed by her children, Cynthia (David) Sauer, Danielle Klee and Brian Schirmer, and her five grandchildren Jessica Sauer, Gretchen Schirmer, and Charles, Christian and Juliana Klee, as well as her dear friends, Sr. Valeria DaSilva and Margaret Hoyle.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
