Sandra A. Oliver

TROY- Sandra (Awa) A. (Shaver) Oliver, age 68, passed away on November 24, 2022 at her residence surrounded by family on her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, after a long and courageous battle.
She was born in Troy, the daughter of the late Edwin Sr. and Anna Mae Shaver. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Edwin (Eddie) Shaver Jr. and Phillip Shaver Sr.
Sandy was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and went on to become a Certified Medical Coder with Community Care Physicians (CHA) for 30 years.
Sandy was a member of the Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time at the family camp at Hedges Lake. Sandy was an avid shopper, always knowing where to find the good deals.
Sandy's favorite times were spent with her beloved grandchildren. Affectionately known as Awa, she loved to have her grandchildren around her always, cooking, playing and spending quality time with them all.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, David G. Oliver Jr.; daughter, Christine VanDenburgh (Jeffrey); son, Jason Oliver (Melissa); best cuddle buddy, Missy; grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, and Sarah VanDenburgh and Ally Oliver; siblings: Richard Shaver (Pat), Steven Shaver (Mary), and Marge Landor (Joe). Sandy is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
A special thanks to all of Sandy's medical providers including: Dr. James Walders (Mary), Dr. Joseph Seguel (Amanda), Dr. Boris Medarov (Medalia), Dr. Rahim Dhanani (Linda) and the members of Rensselaer County Community Hospice who assisted Sandy in her final days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189. All are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Avenue, Troy, NY. Interment will be held on Monday December 5, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sandy's memory may be made to: Sacred Heart Church, 310 Spring Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 or to The Community Hospice and send to: The Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
