Niskayuna - Sandra M. "Sandy" Paniccia, 62, of Niskayuna, NY passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, February 3, 2023 after a very short, yet courageous, battle with lung cancer.
Born in Schenectady on December 20, 1960 to the late Nelson and Mary Johnson. Sandy was also predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Joseph Paniccia.
Sandra was a graduate of the former Mount Pleasant High School class of 1978. After graduating high school, she attended The Westchester School for Paraprofessional Training, where she received her Medical Assistant certificate in 1980. Early in her career, Sandy worked for Dr. Surani's pediatric office as a physician's assistant. She then went on to work for the Department of Transportation for Niskayuna Central School District where she recently retired from after 23 years of service. Sandy also worked for the Daily Gazette, delivering newspapers to the town of Niskayuna. She can be greatly remembered for her willingness to care about and take care of the kids she mentored while being an aide on the buses for Niskayuna Central Schools.
In her free time, Sandy loved to shop. You could usually find her at a thrift store or consignment shop. She was always dressed up in some sort of 'bling, bling' and would match every outfit she wore with every accessory she had. If you needed a piece of jewelry or matching scarf, Sandy had it, and was always willing to let you borrow or keep it. She loved showering her family and friends with little 'thinking of you' gifts. She loved to dance, and enjoyed live music. Sandy loved to go to car shows during the summer, and travel down to Florida for the winter. She loved her fur babies: Mittens, Teddy, Miss Molly, Mira and Oliver. Sandy was also a devoted Catholic at St. Kateri (St. Helens) Parish.
Sandra will be forever missed by her two children; Joshua and Gina Paniccia, and her daughter in-law Emily Paniccia; brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Arlene Johnson, as well as her loving fiancé, Joe Rizzo. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.
Josh and Gina would like to give special thanks to the Hospice team who helped Sandy and us during the final stages of her life. We would also like to thank Father Bob and Sharon Maneri from St. Kateri for their continuous prayers. We would also like to give thanks to anyone that has helped us, supported us, and have shown kindness to us during these difficult times.
