Sandra M. Soltys

August 13, 1935 — January 31, 2022

Sandra M. Soltys passed away peacefully in her sleep at Ellis Rehabilitation and Residential Center in Schenectady New York on Monday, January 31st. She was 86 years of age. She was a devoted wife to Theodore J. Soltys, who she married in 1953 on Valentine's Day and spent 62 wonderful years together before his passing. She is also predeceased by her parents Douglas B. and Marie K. Murray of Holly Hill Florida and her brother Captain Douglas V. Murray USN (ret.) of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

Sandra was an artisan in that she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needlepoint, and knitting colorful afghans. She was a collector of Hummel and Painted Ponies figurines. As a young adult, she played piano for her church, and in subsequent years played piano at home for her children. During her children's grade school years there were fun family trips to Daytona Beach FL to visit grandparents. Sandra was an amazing cook and baker. Family gatherings on holidays and birthdays were very special to her. Her homemade ice cream cake and ricotta cheese cake were favorites. She relished working on daily newspaper crosswords and taking trips with her husband to Wildwood NJ. In the summer, it was not unusual to catch her lounging on a chair float in the backyard pool reading a good paperback. She was an avid animal lover - especially her pet cats.

Sandra worked as a keypunch operator for NY State and then for New York Telephone in Albany, NY. Afterwards, she worked as a corporate payroll clerk ten years at GE in Schenectady, NY.

She is survived by children Theodore D. (Lisa) Soltys Sr. of Colonie; Catherine J. (Jim) Kulbako of Rotterdam, and Christine R. (Gene) Aros of Star, ID; grandchildren Breanah S. (Jared) Sutton of Boise ID, Theodore D. Soltys Jr. of Daytona Beach FL, Brendon J. Syndennis of Mission Viejo CA, Brent T. Syndennis of Star ID and great grandchild, Teddy M. Sutton of Boise ID.

A private family service is planned at New Comer Funeral Home, Albany, New York. A special thank you to the nursing and CNA staff at Ellis Rehabilitation and Residential Center for their compassionate care for Sandra.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands NY 12204 in Sandra's name.
