ALBANY - Sarah J. Kawalkowski, 89, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, surrounded by her loving family.
Sarah was born on April 18, 1921 in Hackensack, NJ and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Nellie (Lowe) Miller. She was the loving wife of 60 years to the late William M. Kawalkowski (Kawal); he died on October 14, 2008.
Sarah loved her family and enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, crocheting and reading. She was a member of the Roessleville Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Women's Association.
Sarah is survived by her daughters, Jane (James) Turner of Niskayuna, Carol A. (Leo) Dacey of Clifton, VA, and Donna L. (James) Gillis of Guilderland; her grandchildren, Jason M. (Lisa) Kois, Jamie L. Nestler, Kristin L. Dacey, Kelly M. and Lyndsey M. Gillis; her great-grandchildren, Katlyn and Jakob Nestler and Alyssa and Sydney Kois; and several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you is extended to the staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center and to Community Hospice of Albany, for their care and concern given to Sarah.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, Memory Gardens, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roessleville Presbyterian Church, 1 No. Elmhurst Ave., Albany, NY 12205 or to the Arthritis Foundation, 1717 Central Ave., Suite 105, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Sarah J. Kawalkowski.
