HALFMOON, NY – Peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2013 the Lord called Sarah Mabel Pennick Petty Brooks home. She entered into eternal rest after a long illness. Born in Halifax, VA to the late Samuel and Ellen (Hudson) Pennick, she attended school in the Virginia school system. In later years she moved to Albany, NY and joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of her husband, the late Rev. Oliver J. Brooks. While living in Albany, Mabel worked for the former John G. Myers. After her husband's passing she moved to Georgia and worked for Six Flags in Atlanta before retiring and relocating in Albany to be close to her family. Mabel was a very quiet, soft spoken, kind person who always had a smile on her face.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Dwight E. Petty; her sister, Viola Lovelace; step-daughter Brenda Brooks and step-grandson John E. Brooks. Mabel leaves her special friend of twenty-nine years, George W. Allen. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Mabel was predeceased by six brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A calling hour will precede the service from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
