GUILDERLAND, NY – Savas J. Ermides, passed away on Tuesday, October 06, 2009. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late James and Olga Ermides. He was an Albany resident for all of his life. Mr. Ermides was a graduate of Albany High School and Russell Sage College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country during the Korean War. Savas worked for New York State from where he retired. He was an active lifetime member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. Savas was a New York Giants fan and also enjoyed walking and traveling. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Chalachanis) Ermides. He is the devoted father of James (Michelle) Ermides and Stephanie Ermides. He is the brother of Mary Ermides, Gus (Barbara) Ermides and Harry J. (Diane) Ermides. He is the cherished grandfather of James S. Ermides, Jr. Also surviving is one aunt and many cousins, nieces and nephews here, and in Greece.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, Albany. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m at the church with the Trisagion Service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to S. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Savas J. Ermides.
