Serena A (Steele)Trombley, 64, of Altamont, NY passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, September 18, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer in the arms of her loving husband Jeff, surrounded by friends considered family.
Born in Colonie, NY on October 13, 1958, Serena was the daughter of the late Blaire and Rena Steele. She attended Colonie Central High School, where she met the love of her life - Jeff. They were married on September 13, 1980, and just celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary.
Serena is survived by her husband Jeff Trombley; brother David Steele (Lisa); brother-in-law Ken Trombley; nephews Steven Steele (Jillian) and Andrew Steele (Samantha); niece Cassie Montgomery (Chris); great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Serena worked for the State of New York. She worked at the NYS Department of Tax & Finance, the NYS Thruway Authority and retired from the NYS Office of the State Comptroller's Office in 2014. She returned to the Comptroller's Office to help with special projects using her knowledge and expertise until early 2023.
She and Jeff spent their entire life together at a multitude of race tracks up and down the East Coast where they made a countless number of friends who they consider family. #RISAF
Serena, aka "the world traveler" by her closest friends, was always ready for the next adventure. She travelled to many countries around the world with her friends Jackie and Kathy. She loved traveling with her husband and her friends, whether it was going on a cruise, visiting NASCAR tracks around the country with her best friend Sheri or just sitting on the beach. Her love for adventure was never ending; you could find her zip lining, jumping out of airplanes, white water rafting or just puttering in her gardens or reading a book. After she and Jeff retired, they travelled in their RV never knowing where they were going to end up watching the next sunrise and sunset.
She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her giggle, positive spirit, determination, kindness, generosity, and most of all for the friendship and support she gave. Serena truly lived up to the meaning of her name (serene/calm). She had the ability to take charge and be the calm in any crisis. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and by the many friends she made over the years.
Calling hours will be held October 1, 2023, from 11:00 - 2:00 followed by a memorial at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 343 New Karner Road Colonie, NY
Those wishing to remember Serena are asked, that in lieu of flowers, they send a contribution to The Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Road Albany, NY 12205.
