Clifton Park- Shanthi Shankar, 83, passed away at her home in Clifton Park, NY, on Sunday, November 14, 2021. Her eldest daughter, Maya Parker, and son-in-law, Scott Parker, were by her side. Born in Bhadravathi, Karnataka (India), she was the daughter of the late A. B. Gouramma and M. P. Ganapathy of Coorg. She was married for 54 years to her husband, Dr. K. R. Shankar, until his passing in 2015.
Shanthi was a loving mother and grandmother. Kind and soft-spoken, she was a uniquely gentle person known for her warmth and generosity. She loved movies, flowers, travel and all things pink. She enjoyed having new experiences, socializing with her friends and, above all, being with her family. Shanthi and Shankar were founding members of the local Hindu Temple and the Tri-City India Association. They maintained a welcoming home, open to friends from around the world and kids from around the neighborhood, all of whom made fond memories over the years.
Shanthi is survived, and is deeply missed, by Maya and Scott, son Naren Shankar and his wife Cheri, daughter Meera Shankar and son Manoj Shankar, and her granddaughters Serena and Neena Parker.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, November 21 at Newcomer Funeral Home in Colonie, NY. Due to the on-going pandemic, the ceremony will be for immediate family only. A memorial service is being planned for next year, and details will be forthcoming.
