GUILDERLAND – Shirley E. Friebel, 85, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born in Albany to the late Harry and Emma Schramm. Shirley was a graduate of Altamont High School. She was an active member of The Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, BPOE Auxiliary and Town and Country Lanes bowling league. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Carleton Friebel and her brother, Donald Schramm.
Shirley spent her life as a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She looked forward to camping with her husband, sons and eventually her grandchildren at Fish Creek Ponds in the Adirondacks. Carl & Shirley liked to travel with friends and made several trips to Nashville, TN and Branson, MO. Shirley loved to cook for her family and always greeted people at her door with "Do you want something to eat?" Her grandchildren couldn't wait to get to grandmas for her homemade chocolate chip cookies.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Mark C. (Darcy) Friebel of Newark Valley, NY and Todd H. Friebel of Guilderland. She is the loving grandmother to Andrew M. Friebel, Elmira, NY, Aaron M. (Kara) Friebel, Liverpool, NY and Laura A. Friebel, Plattsburgh, NY. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Arlene Schramm, Frieda Heintz, Dorothy (Robert) Knapp and Florence (David) Shumway. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends and relatives are invited to call Friday Oct. 28 from 6:00-8:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany. Funeral Service will be Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, Guilderland. Interment to follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, 2291 Western Avenue Guilderland, NY 12084 or to the Guilderland Interfaith Food Pantry c/o the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church in Shirley's honor.
