Shirley A. Gilmer, 84, died peacefully on September 26, 2011, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Albany, on January 23, 1927, the daughter of the Late Emma (Bruce) and Joseph Dorsey.
She was educated in the Albany School Systems. She retired from Albany County, having devoted her career to managing local food pantry's and was responsible to feed the many hungry of the Capital Region. One of Shirley's notable roles in the Community was managing "Dorsey's Café" in downtown Albany, where she brought many cultures and races together which allowed integration and acceptance.
She was of the Catholic Faith.
Devoted Mother of Ricardo (Rick) Dorsey, Jacqueline Dorsey and Deborah Buefrod. Cherished Grandmother to Emerald Horne, Alexandrina (Tony) Shortino and William Gibson III "Buddy".
Sister of Ralph and Carlene Dorsey. She also leaves Four Great-grandchilren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by Buck, Willard, Robert and James Dorsey.
