Shirley E. Johnson

Albany- Shirley E. Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2017 with her family by her side. Shirley was the daughter of the late Charles and Henrietta Dowen. She is predeceased by her loving husband Willard L. Johnson Sr.

Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed cooking for everyone especially for her churches. Shirley had many interests including crocheting and collecting baby dolls.

She is survived by her children, George (Betty) Johnson, Cathy (the late Robert) Hennessey, Sharon E. (the late Lawrence) Bunting & John (Stacey) Johnson. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as her sister, Constance Darmetko and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband Shirley is predeceased by her children, Carol Acker, Willard L. Johnson Jr. and Charleen (Joe) Downey and her siblings.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to, EverGreen Commons Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 1070 Luther Rd, East Greenbush, NY 12061.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Evergreen Commons for the compassion and care given to Shirley.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189. A funeral ceremony will follow the calling hours starting at 6:00pm. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
