AMSTERDAM - Shirley J. Kirby passed away on Saturday, December 3rd 2022 at home surrounded by her family after a long illness.
Shirley Kirby, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was a dedicated and loving matriarch. She was known for her funny, witty personality, and enjoyed making others happy, taking care of everyone and showering them with gifts and love. She would always put her loved ones first, even after becoming ill.
Shirley and her husband, Neil, spent 62 years committed to one another. Together they raised six children. Shirley cherished the holidays and surrounded by her family as it grew with fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.
Some of Shirley's treasured memories was to go to the lake during the summer and host cookouts with her family and friends. She enjoyed teas and one of her favorite things to do at night was to share a cup with her grandchildren. Shirley was a good friend who was always there to lend an ear, offer loving advice or words of comfort and understanding. She will be remembered as the glue of family.
Shirley is preceded in death by her brothers, Dick and Peter and sister, Carole great-grandson Xavier Martin ,grandson Pedro Caban and her great-granddaughter Gabriella Rodriguez.
Shirley is survived by her husband Neil Kirby, her children, Lois Smith (Arnie), Neil Kirby Jr. (Cindy), Cameron Kirby, and Jeremiah Kirby (Brandi), a step-daughter Patricia; her sisters Darlene Hogan and Lois Hayes, her grandchildren, Chuck, Michael, Thea, Joshuah, Elysa, Sarah, Ryan, Jeweliana, Callen, Anastacia, Caleb, Kerragan, Peyton , Hector, and Chealsi and her great-grandchildren Sixto, Angelio, Keyanna, Ryanna, Nascere, Marley, Kirteece, Sonder, Caden, Spencer, Phoenix, Olivia, Evelyn, Levi, Sullivan, Savannah, Shepard, Tucker, Liam, Eli, Kaelyn, and Campbell and her great -great grandchild Giovanni.
A private celebration of life will be held in the spring by her family.
